Onshore Overseas Chinese and Foreign Investors

The onshore overseas Chinese and foreign investors who invest in the domestic securities should enclose the relevant documents and appoint a securities brokerage firm to apply to TWSE for registration in advance, and after completing registration, they can apply to the securities firm for account opening and trade the securities.

Documents Enclosed:

  1. Onshore Overseas Chinese and Foreign Individual Investor: The R.O.C. residence certificate or overseas Chinese identification certificate, other recognizable R.O.C. identification documents ( health insurance ID, passport, driving license, and student ID ).
  2. Onshore Foreign Institutional Investor: The Foreign Company Registration Form and the Branch of Foreign Company Registration Form from the R.O.C. governing authority, and the identification certificate of the responsible person or the R.O.C. residence certificate or passport.

Flow of Processing:

  1. The onshore overseas Chinese and foreign investors applying for registration should prepare those documents as mentioned in the above-mentioned “Document Enclosed” and appoint the securities firm to apply to TWSE. Once the securities brokerage firm transmits the registration form filled out on line in TWSE’s system, TWSE will immediately review each item of the transmitted material, and provide the result of the registration application on line, which is classified as follows:
    1. Registration Completed: After the securities firm prints out the registration application form filled out on line in TWSE’s system, and obtains the Certificate of Registration Completion from TWSE together with the registration application form signed personally by the onshore overseas Chinese and foreign investors applying for registration, then, they can apply for account opening. After completing registration, the securities firm should keep for its own the copy of each document as stated in the above-mentioned “Documents Enclosed”, the registration application form (signed by the applicant) and the Certificate of Registration Completion, and they need not to be sent to TWSE.
    2. Duplicate Registration: The material transmitted is exactly the same as the Chinese and English name of other foreign investor already approved or completing registration. Please request the relevant material of original registration from the onshore overseas Chinese and foreign investors making such registration application.
    3. Registration Incomplete: The securities firm should print out the registration application form on line and have it signed by the onshore overseas Chinese and foreign investors applying for registration, and then deliver such paper along with the application documents in the above-mentioned to TWSE for review.

Account Opening in Securities Firm

The onshore overseas Chinese and foreign investors opening accounts with securities firms shall enclose following documents:
    　
  1. Document proving status
    1. Onshore Overseas Chinese and Foreign Natural Persons: passport and the residence certificate or overseas Chinese identification certificate.
    2. Onshore Foreign Institutional Investor: the Recognition Certificate and or the Company License from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Business Registration Certificate, the identification certificate of the responsible person or the residence card certificate or passport.
