Oct 29 TWSE introduces its narrow-based index co-compiled with international index provider FTSE, the TWSE FTSE Taiwan 50 Index.
2003 Jun 30 The Taiwan 50 Index is licensed to a security investment trust company for the creation of Taiwan’s first exchange traded fund (ETF).

Sept 26 The first QFII ETF investing directly into China A-shares is listed on TWSE.
2012 Feb 20 TWSE implements new market transparency measures and displays the virtual highest bid and lowest offer during the closing session (1:25 pm to 1:30 pm).
Oct 14 TWSE convenes the 52nd Annual Meeting of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE).
2013 Jul 1 The call auction order matching interval is shortened to 15 sec, down from 20 sec.
Sept 9 A pilot program is launched permitting dealers to trade at the price bands within the daily fluctuation limit. The pilot program is made permanent on March 9, 2014.
Sept 23 The uptick rule waiver is expanded to all securities eligible for margin.
Oct 25 The Corporate Governance Center is established.
2014 Jan 6 The Buy-First-Sell-Later scheme is introduced as part of the first round of day trading measures. Eligible securities include constituents of the Taiwan 50, the Taiwan Mid-Cap 100, and the GreTai 50 Indexes.
Feb 24 The call auction order matching interval is shortened to 10 sec.
Mar 10 The next generation trading system goes live and has 3 times the original volume capacity and a latency of 5 ms, down from 50 ms.
May 5 TWSE and TPEx launch the co-compiled Formosa Index, an index offering broad-based exposure to the entire Taiwan market.
Jun 30 The second round of day trading measures, the Sell-First-Buy-Later scheme, is rolled out.
Jul 31 TWSE lists its first 10 extendable warrants.

Jun 1 The scope of day trading is expanded. Before, only the constituent stocks of Taiwan 50 Index, Taiwan Mid-Cap 100 Index, and TPEx 50 Index are allowed for daying trading. Now extends to warrants underlying stocks and ETFs.
Jun 15 The Electronics Leveraged 2X Index and Electronics Inverse -1X Index are launched.
Jun 23 Securities brokers are allowed to confirm an applicant’s identification and intent in writing or electronic method prior to opening an account.
Jun 29 The TWSE will disclose certain information prior to market opening and closing. The simulated transaction prices, trading volume and five best bid/ask prices and volume will be disclosed prior to market opening and closing. In the last minute prior to market opening, the opening and matching for securities that fluctuate beyond a certain limit will be suspended.
Jun 29 Credit limits on margin trading and short sales for individual customers are eliminated and returned to the securities firms’ control.

Feb 1 The scope of day trading is expanded. Eligible securities for margin trading are open to day trading.
Aug 8 The Dual-currency Trading Mechanism on ETFs is officially launched.
