Background of Promoting the Optimization of the Market Observation Post System

The Market Observation Post System (MOPS) is a website established on August 1, 2002 under the guidance of the Securities and Futures Bureau of the Financial Supervisory Commission, Executive Yuan, and the collaboration of relevant units such as the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) and the Taipei Exchange (TPEx). It has the main function of providing investors with the ability to access public information of TWSE and TPEx listed companies, emerging companies, and publicly issued companies through the Internet, and plays an indispensable role in the flourishing development of Taiwan’s capital market.

However, after the revision of the MOPS in 2010, due to the continuous expansion of various businesses in the securities market, the function menu of the MOPS portal has become increasingly complex, the webpage design is crowded, and data search has become difficult. In addition, with the evolution of the environment and the digital age, the characteristics of digital technology products have undergone many changes, people’s habits and behaviors in using digital devices have changed, and a lack of responsive web design (RWD) makes MOPS no longer able to meet the needs on mobile devices. Therefore, the TWSE and the TPEx launched the MOPS Optimization Project in 2023 to comprehensively improve investors’ user experience.

Research Method for MOPS Optimization

In order to come up with a webpage design for good user experience and a good user interface, the project team first conducted a comprehensive user experience study. Through user experience research and experience design, the project team understood the internal and external processes and usage situations, and planned appropriate interactive processes and graphics, aiming to design a website with smooth operation and good usability. The research content includes the following:

  1. Quantitative questionnaire collection: Over a thousand valid questionnaires were collected to gather user feedback and user information, such as user types, purposes of their visits, commonly used functions, frequency of use, extended applications of website information, and opinions or suggestions on website usage. Key information that helps website design planning was integrated as a reference for the design.
  2. Information architecture and website framework design: The website content requirements were integrated and classified after inventorying. The project team then discussed the visualization of the information structure, designed a navigation system that allows users to easily find information, and developed specifications to maintain consistency in information presentation of digital services to build an information architecture for the MOPS.
  3. Prototype design: Based on the information architecture design, the project team created interactive prototype web pages, planned the display of search modes and filtering conditions, and built interface prototypes of search modes and filtering conditions for computer and RWD mobile phone versions.
  4. Usability verification on prototype design: The project team conducted usability verification interviews based on the interactive web page prototype. First, the target investor group was selected, and in-depth interviews were conducted with these investors to inquire about their behavior and needs in using the MOPS. Then specific tasks were designed for usability testing, the actual operational process was observed, areas that needed to be modified on the website were identified, and suggestions for quick modification were provided to optimize the web pages for improved usability.

After completing the aforementioned user experience research, a further interface style design was carried out on the prototype that had undergone usability verification. The mission of the MOPS is to provide the investing public with real-time and accurate public information on TWSE and TPEx listed companies, and a professional and refined design is adopted to emphasize its professionalism.

Optimization of Website Architecture and Functionality of the MOPS

The optimized MOPS was officially launched on October 21, 2024 after a complete user experience process and interface design. The optimized webpage has the following five features:

  1. A new homepage design:Reading comfort is improved through a minimalist page design to significantly enhance the overall browsing fluency.
  2. A reorganized functional menu:The current 400 plus functions are reorganized into five major categories:
    • Individual company:Searching for announcements and related information of individual companies.

    • Summary report:Querying the consolidated announcements and information of multiple companies and various markets (TWSE listed, TPEx listed, emerging, and publicly traded companies).

    • Material information announcements:Quickly searching for various material information and announcements.

    • Theme zones:Various theme zones for Innovation Board companies, primary TWSE/TPEx listed foreign enterprises, Taiwan depository receipts, etc.

    • Other financial products:Disclosure of information for ETFs, ETNs, call (put) warrants, bonds, asset securitization products, mutual funds, etc.

  3. Addition of commonly used function blocks:Blocks of most commonly used functions are added to the homepage to allow investors to quickly search for frequently used information.
  4. Responsive web design:The web pages are optimized to support RWD and provide the best browsing experience even on mobile devices.
  5. Function comparison index:To facilitate users’ familiarity with the new webpage, the website provides an index of old and new functions to allow investors to quickly find the locations of new functions and ensure smooth and seamless operation.

Epilogue

As an important platform for the investment environment of Taiwan’s capital market, the MOPS provides a better user experience for the investing public through the optimization of the portal interface, and enhances its user friendliness and disclosure of various investment information. Investors may visit the optimized website (URL: https://mopsplus.twse.com.tw) during the experience period for a trial experience, and may provide feedback on the user experience.

Looking to the future, the TWSE will continue collecting feedback from users, continuously improve, and meet investor needs for accessing various company and investment information.
