Create a safe workplace

The TWSE and its subsidiaries are committed to caring for employees' physical and mental health and augmenting a safe workplace environment. These two policies aim to lower rates of occupational injuries and to further create a healthy and safe workplace.



Caring for employees' physical and mental health

1. Implementing workplace health management

The TWSE and its subsidiaries provide various health promotion activities to raise employees' awareness of proper health concepts, such as nutrition, and first-aid techniques, to prevent health issues and maintain employee well-being.







To help employees manage work and life issues they may encounter, the TWSE has a long-term partnership with the Employee Assistance Service Center of Hsinchu City Lifeline Association in implementing Employee Assistance Program (EAP).




2. Promote healthy leisure activities

The TWSE has established the Employee Welfare Committee Club Guidance for the operation of clubs. The TWSE also provides subsidies for clubs. The TWSE currently has 12 clubs which convene regularly scheduled activities and annual meetings, enriching the lives of employees outside the office.

To enhance internal cohesion and promote sports, the TWSE organizes an annual sports meet each year and encourages employees to invite their families to join. This event achieves team building and allows family members to become better acquainted with the TWSE community as a whole. In addition, the TWSE invites retired employees to the year-end dinner party every year to show gratitude for their contributions to the TWSE, which also expresses the TWSE's human-focused corporate culture.

Maintaining workplace safety

To prevent occupational accidents and ensure employees' safety and health, the TWSE has established the Occupational Safety and Health Committee. In accordance with Article 34 of the "Occupational Safety and Health Act," the TWSE and TDCC have established the "Safety and Health Work Rules" to maintain and improve the occupational safety and health of employees.


1.Occupational Safety and Health Committee

The TWSE Occupational Safety and Health Committee, headed by the president, is convened each quarter. Labor representatives comprise one-third of all committee members, which complies with Article 11 of the “Occupational Safety and Health Act" of the Ministry of Labor.


Labor and management work together to promote a healthy and safe workplace culture. In 2020, major efforts included replacing expired items, purchasing new gloves and emergency kits, and dispensing them to employees to minimize the dangers posed to them in case of disaster.

2.Occupational safety training sessions

To let all workers understand and abide by occupational safety and health related laws and regulations, and to prevent accidents and occupational accidents from occurring, the TWSE and its subsidiaries require all employees to receive safety and health training necessary for their work in accordance with the "Safety and Health Work Rules."

Compared with the previous year, the number of participants and training hours have increased approximately threefold and fivefold, respectively. This is mainly due to the diversity and number of training sessions held by the TWSE this year, such as disaster prevention and response, fire safety, and emergency drills, to strengthen employees' emergency prevention and response capabilities.



3.Work-related injuries

The TWSE also takes work-related injury rates into consideration in its assessment of workplace health and safety policies. In 2020, four work-related injury incidents were reported in accordance with the "Occupational Safety and Health Act"; all four incidents were traffic accidents on the way to work. The TWSE reported the incidents to the occupational safety and health management entities when employees requested leave, and reached out in concern when employees were sick or injured, even making visits to those who were hospitalized. If an employee requests more than one day of leave for a work-related injury, the case is reported to the competent authority of labor in the following month.


Note 1: The table above only shows the TWSE performance. The information is derived from reports made to the Occupational Injury System of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the Ministry of Labor. For the TDCC data, please refer to the 2020 TDCC sustainability report. The TWCA and TIP did not have any occupational injuries for the past two years.
Note 2: The sum of actual work hours of all TWSE employees, which is the same as the statistical data submitted to the Ministry of Labor.
Note 3: The sum of the number of general occupational injuries (fewer than 180 lost workdays), severe occupational injuries (equal or more than 180 lost workdays) and fatalities. The TWSE did not have any severe occupational injuries or fatalities in 2020.
Note 4: Reportable occupational injuries * 1,000,000 / total work hours; defined by the Ministry of Labor as "Disabling Injury Frequency Rate."
